While we were working on the song, a random debate about different versions of #Hurt (Nine Inch Nails vs. Johnny Cash vs. everything else) sparked in the office. When we revealed we were working on our own rendition, we ended up playing our (at that time unfinished) track for our colleagues. The moment a guys from nearby office rushed in, frantically Shazaming, we knew we were onto something.
Our interpretation of Hurt takes a synth-based approach with a dream pop base and the trademark vulnerability of &Tilly. The theme is so close to our own musical universe, and we're thrilled with how our Hurt turned out.
The accompanying video was filmed at the abandoned Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, lending the song a somber yet fitting vibe that we accentuated with red and blue tones. We hope you can resonate with our take on this legendary song, although part of us hopes you can't - because if you can, it means you've experienced your own share of hurt, too. We also highly recommend visiting the Eastern State Penitentiary if you're ever in Philly. It's a controversial piece of history and architecture that left a huge impression on us.

Spotify ⇾ Deezer ⇾ Tidal ⇾ Apple Music ⇾ Bandcamp ⇾I hurt myself today To see if I still feel I focus on the pain The only thing that's real The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember everything What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt I wear this crown of thorns Upon my liar's chair Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair Beneath the stains of time The feelings disappear You are someone else And I am still right here What have I become? My Swedish friend Everyone I know goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt If I could start again A million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way
