right // left has a haunting, lullaby-like quality I came to love so much, in our music as well as others'... A fourth collaboration with our D.C. friend BlauDiss, right // left is calming and enveloping, filled with blurry images, imprecise memories, and unfinished thoughts, mirroring a story both complex and unresolved...
The song is written from the perspective of the daughter of Sarah "Sally" Hemings, Thomas Jefferson’s enslaved lover. In the lyrics, “she” refers to her mother, while “he” reflects her controversial father, who, in this story, may have wanted to do the right thing but felt unable, or unwilling, to fully act on it much like the history tells us. Heavy? Well, yeah... The song is still soft and lulling you to daydream, and I hope you'll love its poetic vibrations just as much as we do.
